(WBNG Binghamton) Something new is coming to the Discovery Center. Mike Umstead and Martha Steed came by to tell us more.

The Discovery Center, this area's premier children's museum, and Weis Markets will cut the ribbon and officially open their new interactive grocery exhibit. The Weis Markets Exhibit is a kid-sized grocery store where children can shop smart with scaled down shelves, cash registers and shopping carts. This is the one grocery store that they can touch everything, take it off the shelves and put it in their carts! Of course the packaging doesn't contain real product, but the shelves are stocked with healthy choices; fruits and vegetables, dairy products, seafood selections and delicious deli offerings. After all, these are tomorrow's grocery shoppers who are playing in the exhibit! The new Weis Markets Exhibit replaces the old Giant Exhibit with updated fixtures, product, registers, graphics and lighting. This is the first children's interactive exhibit that the Sunbury, Pennsylvania based grocery chain has sponsored.

The ribbon cutting will take place during The Discovery Center's Wizard of Oz Summer Carnival on Monday, June 30 at 11am. The Summer Carnival which celebrates the official start of our summer season, will feature contests, games, prizes, rides and wizardly crafts and activities. Entertainment will feature a dance party with DJ Mo Reese, music by Jared Campbell, Magical John the Wizard, and Johnson City High School's Sophisticats Wizard of Oz performance. Weis Markets will also be sponsoring the 'Munchkin Luncheon' food tent. Carnival activities will take place, rain or shine, from 10am to 3:30pm. Admission for the day is $4 for members and $8 for not-yet-members, food cost not included. Take the free BC Trolley shuttle from the Knights of Columbus on Park Ave for over-flow parking.
