Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's been quite a first half of the season for the Binghamton Mets. The team is finishing up its last series before the All-Star break, and Binghamton entered Saturday with the best record in the Eastern League and an 8.5 game lead in the division.

Part of the reason for that has been the team's bullpen, and the anchor of that group is headed to the all-star game next week.

Closer Jeff Walters has been the 9th inning man for the B-Mets, and has certainly thrived in that roll. He leads the league with 22 saves so far this season and he has an ERA under three.

Walters though had just four saves all of last year while splitting time between high-A and low-A ball for the organization. This year he's happy to have gotten this type of opportunity in Binghamton.

"I'm just glad I got put in the opportunities that I did to come straight into the season and be the 9th inning guy," said Walters. "Just attacking the zone man, we've got an incredible defense behind us, just trusting them and trusting myself to throw the right pitches at the right time."

Walters and the rest of the B-Mets All-Stars will play in the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 10 in New Britain.
