Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Visiting Hofstra won six of the first seven bouts and held off Binghamton wrestling (5-12) 23-19 Sunday afternoon at West Gym.

The Bearcats honored their five seniors beforehand and its two undefeated stars produced commanding first-period pins but the Pride turned three major decisions and a technical fall into the winning margin.

Trailing 12-0 after losses at 125, 133 and 141, Binghamton cut its margin in half when No. 4 Donnie Vinson made quick work of his opponent. Vinson, 27-1 overall, kept his unblemished dual record intact with a pin in 1:45. He had three takedowns in the first period before ending the bout with his team-high eighth pin of the season. Vinson improved to 17-0 in duals with one more dual remaining (Feb. 21 at Bloomsburg). He raised his career duals record to 71-8 and is 126-25 in his career.

After Vinson’s win, Hofstra won the next three matches to push its lead to 23-6. Binghamton wins in the last three matches tightened the final score.

Nate Schiedel, No. 5 in the nation at 197 pounds, locked up a cradle and closed out his match in 1:15. He improved to 24-2 overall, a perfect 17-0 in duals. It was Schiedel’s seventh pin of the season.

Junior 184-pound Cody Reed (14-13) notched a 15-5 major decision and sophomore heavyweight Tyler Deuel (17-14) finished the afternoon with a 12-8 decision for BU’s other wins.

The Bearcats have one more dual (Thursday at No. 14 Bloomsburg) before preparing for the CAA Championship on March 9 in Boston.
