Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Binghamton firefighter, husband and father is found dead inside his firehouse.

John M. Janos, 57, died early Saturday morning, according to Binghamton Assistant Fire Chief Richard Allen.

Allen says Janos was on call Friday night and responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. to a false smoke detector alarm.

Allen says during the response, Janos had to climb up five flights of stairs.

After crews returned from the call, they dispersed in the Binghamton firehouse at 39 West State St.

Sometime early Saturday morning, Janos was found dead. Autopsy results are pending.

Janos was a member of Binghamton's Fire Department since 1988, and served as the local union president for several years.

Allen says Janos will be greatly missed and was a person on which he could always count.

Janos leaves behind a wife and three children. He was also nearing retirement, Allen said.

Local 729 Union President David Holleran says the family has been notified and funeral arrangements are pending.
