Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An iconic walk in front of the Metro Center was cleaned up Saturday afternoon.

Dozens gathered to spruce up Binghamton's Sidewalk of Stars on Court St.

Since the memorial began decades ago, the sidewalk has seen deterioration, Barry Blakeslee set out to fix it.

When Blakeslee's good friend and vocalist, Butch Skeene died in January, he applied for a star for his friend. He then found out the sidewalk had nearly been forgotten.

Blakeslee organized a cleanup to bring some shine back to the stars and the surrounding area and has higher hopes for the future of the walk.

"I think it should be moved to a different location where it would see more traffic and be more protected from the elements," Blakeslee said.

Binghamton Mayor Rich David (D) said the city wants to begin working with Broome County to determine the best future for the Sidewalk of Stars.
