Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Family Enrichment Network received a $7,000 grant Thursday to help prepare children and adults for high school equivalency tests.

The Johnson City program is one of 17 organizations to receive money from the Broome County Youth Bureau.

Officials in Broome County said the gift goes a long way.

"In some cases, we are granting up to 75 percent of what that program is running on for the year and other, we're just a small amount of a much larger program, but we're fitting a need that they have," said Art Garrison, Director of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services.

The Youth Bureau handed out a total of $132,000, which is an 11 percent increase from last year.
