Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) With Christmas only 15 days away, shipping centers such as UPS and FedEx are busy with holiday packages.

Monday was considered the busiest shipping day of the year.

It was estimated that well over 300 packages came through the door at the UPS Store in Vestal, and Pack and Mail assisted over 100 customers on Monday afternoon.

Although internet shopping is becoming increasingly popular, it seems that many people still prefer to send their own gifts.

"We still see a lot of people who care about shipping, who want to wrap the presents themselves; want to feel what they buy before they send it out. Our customers are very special and care a lot about what they're sending and how they send it," noted Sean Harrigan, owner of Pack and Mail.

Some employees are working extra hours this week in order to keep operations running smoothly and packages to be mailed on time.

"There's only two registers, so there's only so much to do up front. We have people out back doing the packing, the wrapping, and everything else that needs to be done to make sure that the package is safe," said UPS sales associate John O'Brion.

It takes about a week for packages to reach the West Coast using regular ground shipping. In order to guarantee delivery by Christmas, people are encouraged to get their shipments out by this Thursday.

The UPS Store and Pack and Mail on the Vestal Parkway will both be open this Sunday, in addition to their regular hours.
