Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A business that sold, flooded and then reopened with improvements is celebrating 40 years of colorful business in the town of Union.

Nanticoke Gardens is back and better than ever.

Pete and Chip Shafer bought the nursery from its original owner. But after just one season of success Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee tore through upstate New York and put a question mark on their dreams.

With the help of neighbors and the community Nanticoke Gardens is now growing again.

"You've heard a story of love, a story of endurance, of courage, of labor, of a community coming together to support one of our most loved businesses," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

The Shafer's say they owe the community at least another 40 years of service and plan to continue delivering colors flowers and plants.
