Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's exactly five month until Christmas, but a local organization has the holidays on its mind already.

The Gorgeous Washington Street Association held its Christmas in July celebration Friday. It's a fundraising event to bring new holiday lighting and decorations to downtown Binghamton.

There was live entertainment and food. Local businesses and artists donated gift baskets and paintings for raffle prizes and auctions.

The Gorgeous Washington Street Association says getting Christmas lights is their biggest project this year, since the current lights are 25 years old.

"They've just fallen into such a state of disrepair that it's impossible to put them up. And once you've realized that it's at the end of a calender year, the end of a budgetary year, it's a two-year cycle in order to get something done," said Ren Fanning, Gorgeous Washington Street Association board member.

Another event the association puts on is First Fridays. The leftover funds from First Fridays will go toward Christmas decorations as well. For more information about the association and when their next event is, click HERE
