Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The chairwoman of the Tompkins County Legislature announces she's running to represent the 23rd Congressional District.
Martha Robertson stood outside the Tioga County Courthouse Friday in Owego to announce her candidacy for New York's 23rd Congressional District.
Robertson, a Democrat, has been on the Tompkins County Legislature since 2002 and its chairwoman since 2010. She also leads the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency.
In her campaign, she says she is focused on bringing compromise to Washington and a commitment to the middle class with job creation and economic development.
"More than 700 jobs created while I've been on the Industrial Development Agency, that's the kind of record. We're getting things done and making things happen. It's not partisan. It's just common sense. It's working together with the assets we have right here and making the most of them," Robertson said, "Bring jobs back to the Southern Tier, Western New York and the Finger Lakes. That's the No. 1 priority. Jobs that are long lasting and that are local."
Martha Robertson and her husband Steve have been married for almost 35 years. Together they have two children and two grandchildren.
Congressman Tom Reed, a Republican, currently represents the 23rd district.
The district spans 11 counties from the Finger Lakes to the Southern Tier to western New York including all of parts of Tioga, Tompkins and Chemung counties.
