Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As the defending Dick's Sporting Goods Open champion, Bart Bryant says it feels a little different walking around En-Joie Golf Course this week. But it's a good-type of different.
He said it's always fun to go back to where you've won in the past because you have plenty of good memories.
"Every week you're kind of ready to hit that first tee shot, but it seems like maybe you're a little more anxious on a week where you're 'defending,' if you want to call it that," said Bryant on Wednesday. "You're kind of ready to get that first tee shot under your belt, and then you're kind of back on equal terms. You know, once that first guy hits the first tee shot, I'm really no longer defending champion, we've got a new tournament."
Bryant's good feelings include shooting a course-record 62 during the second round of last year's tournament. Despite how well he played, he said on Wednesday that he feels like his ball-striking is better than it was last year at this time. He said the key will be if he can make putts.
Bryant is in the second to last group of the day on Friday. He's set to go off the first tee at 1:49 p.m. He'll be joined by 2012 Dick's Sporting Goods Open champion Willie wood and Fred Funk.
