Drunk driver caused 20 homes to lose power

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After a drunk driver crashed into a pole in the Town of Union early Sunday morning, nearly 20 homes lost power for more than five hours, according to the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Elisabeth R. Reynolds, 24, of Rochester, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to deputies, an eyewitness saw Reynolds crash into the pole on Country Club Road.

A deputy located Reynolds near the scene. Her blue SUV had no operable headlights and had serious front-end damage.

The deputy said she claimed no knowledge of the crash or car damage.

Reynolds was arrested after a field sobriety test and taken the sheriff's office as the investigation continued.

Her car had to be towed from the scene.

Her blood alcohol level was later discovered to be twice the legal limit.

Reynolds charges include aggravated DWI, misdemeanor, driving while intoxicated, misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident, violation, and moving from a lane unsafely, violation.

She is expected to return to the Town of Union Court at a later date.

NYSEG crews spent the day fixing the damage.
