Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Kids of all ages searched high and low among the animals for some coveted colorful eggs.

The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park held the "Eggstravaganza" all weekend, bringing in 600 visitors Saturday and a good amount of people Sunday, despite the light rain.

Eggs were hidden all around the zoo, ready to be found by local children who exchanged them for candy and prizes. There was also a live Easter bunny named Oreo to pet and take photos with.

Volunteer Coordinator at the zoo, Melissa Grippin, says the "Eggstravaganza" was the first big event of the season for the zoo, which officially opens the weekend of April 20. The 138th season of the zoo will feature several new exhibits, some of which egg hunters got to see today.

"We have really been gearing up for our big reZOOvenation," Grippin said. She was using the creative term for the renovations at the zoo, which was posted in signs all over the park.

One of those projects is a new Rainforest Cafe.

Two new snowy owls named Blizzard and Storm have also joined the animals at the zoo.

There was also a new Amur Leopard which joined the two Amur Tigers the zoo got last summer.

Opening weekend is April 20-21, but Grippin said if there is nice weather they will have soft openings ahead of time.
