Town of Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An energy-efficient and money-saving residential neighborhood is on its way to Ithaca.

It's part of an Climate Showcase Communities grant awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Tompkins County is offering 25 acres of land for the project,

It's on Henry B. Dates Drive near the the Cayuga Medical Center.

The structure's design will be highly energy efficient and cuts costs on energy consumption.

They're going to get very close to net-zero energy use in some of those buildings when they add on the renewables they hope to incorporate," Edward Marx, Commissioner of Planning & Community Sustainability For Tompkins County.

The project is at the beginning stages of development.

Tompkins County officials are reaching out to developers to gauge interest,
And eventually begin construction.
