Apalachin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Open officially tees off next Friday.
But the week starts Monday, in Apalachin.
The Links at Hiawatha Landing will host the annual qualifier event for the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
38 players will tee off on Monday morning, starting at 8:00 am for a chance to get into the field of the tournament next week.
Players participating include former Dick's Open champion R.W. Eaks and Senior British Open Champion Bruce Vaughan.
This year, there's one less spot up for grabs.
"Normally there's 4 but because James Mason was a top 10 finisher last week at the Greater Hickory Classic, he automatically comes into our tournament and there's only 3 spots available," says Dick's Open Tournament Director John Karedes.
"There's some really good names in the qualifier. Like you said, R.W. Eaks the original champion of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open and a few local guys actually. Rob Phelps is a gentleman from Onondaga, NY, Syracuse, NY that's a member of our section," says Rick Frederick, the qualifier tournament director from the Central NY PGA.
Again, the qualifier is Monday at the Links at Hiawatha Landing.
All pros will be teeing off from the first tee.
The public is invited to attend.
