Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University community united to honor those who serve our country.
BU held its annual ceremony outside the Couper Administration building.
Deanna Feuerbach, a Binghamton University student, sang the National Anthem as the New York State University Police at Binghamton and the university ROTC unit conducted a flag raising.
"On Veterans Day, I think of my uncles who served. I think of stories they've told me of friends that didn't make it back and it just means a lot to me and my family," said Shayne Thompson, ROTC Cadet, "The Binghamton community has really picked up their events for veterans over the years. They do a great Veterans Day parade. It just means a lot to see everybody come together and just thank veterans for their service."
Thompson also founded a veterans student organization on campus at Binghamton University. He served five years in the U.S. Navy and joined the ROTC at Binghamton University, where he is currently a graduate student. Thompson is also in the National Guard.
Binghamton University also held a Veterans Day panel discussion and luncheon.
