Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A house fire sent a mother to the hospital Sunday night with minor injuries.

More than 20 firefighters worked to put out the serious fire at 40-42 Bevier St.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. At its worst, flames were shooting out of the roof.

Two families were in the home when the fire started, according to the Binghamton Fire Department.

Binghamton Fire Chief Daniel Thomas said one family consisted of a mother and her four children.

The children made it out the home safely, but the mother was transported to Wilson Hospital.

The Binghamton Fire Marshal's Office said they cannot release the name of the mother because she was taken by ambulance.

The American Red Cross will aid in recovery.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
