Vestal, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is partnering with NBT Bank to help honor children who make heroic decisions.

It's all a part of the annual Real Heroes Breakfast. The Youth Good Samaritan Award is given to anyone 21 years or younger who has used their skills to save a life.

Last year's winner, Demetrius Colvin was then a seventh grade student who saved his sister and cousin from a burning home.

NBT Bank donated $16,575 towards the cause.

"It's really interesting with the kids. They really don't seem to get frazzled like adults. They just see something and act on it," Community Executive of the American Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter Shelley Bierwiler said.

This year, the award will be given at the Real Heroes Breakfast in Binghamton, Syracuse, Cortland, and Utica.

The Binghamton Breakfast will be held on May 8 at the Holiday Inn Arena.
