(WBNG Binghamton) It's was a great run for the Harpursville football team.

But it came to an end last night as the Hornets fell in the Class "D" semi-final to Groton.

The Hornets snapped a 27 year non-winning streak and won their division.

They also made it to the playoffs, and won their opening round game.

And while the wound of a season ending 30-15 loss to Groton is still fresh, coaches say this team should have a great deal of pride for what they were able to accomplish this season.

"I just can not speak highly enough about what an outstanding group of young men they are and for the seniors, they gave us everything and they never backed down, never gave in and just so much heart and wherever the future takes them, they will excel. They're great people," says head coach Tim Petras.

The Hornets are graduating 9 seniors from this year's team.

But they have a wealth of talent coming back, including quarterback Devon Dean and running backs Steven Lee and Andrew Kimmell.

That group will look to build on the success of this season.
