Jamel Booker sentenced to 25 years

Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Tompkins County man is sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting a police officer.

A Tompkins County judge sentenced Jamel Booker, 23, to 25 years in prison Friday.

Booker was convicted in April of aggravated assault on a police officer, along with six other charges.

He shot Ithaca Police Officer Anthony Augustine in October.

Augustine suffered a collapsed lung and partial stroke as a result of the injuries he sustained.

While in jail, Booker was arrested again for fighting.

Booker was also sentenced to five years post release supervision and ordered to pay $110,000 in restitution to travelers insurance.
