Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) 'Execution' and 'production' were two of the key words echoing out of Jets camp Tueday as the team prepared for its first preseason game.
After a green and white scrimmage Saturday that produced exactly zero points, the offense is looking for a much better performance against the Indianapolis Colts.
"It's always about execution, it's always about us doing the right things on the field," said quarterback Geno Smith, who will start against the Colts. "We want to execute to the best of our ability, go out there and be sharp mentally, be sharp physically; be accurate, be smart with the reads and get good plays in."
"Move the chains, get some first downs. If we get in the red area, scoring a touchdown is key," said wide receiver Eric Decker. "It's just the little things right now that we've been working on as far as execution -- everybody doing their job."
"Let's have some production -- I think we will," said head coach Rex Ryan.
Ryan said his excitement to see his team on the field is likely comparable to Jets fans' excitement.
"I know our fans are going to be excited about it," he said. "Let's see where this team is at. Let's see how Decker fits in. Let's see how this defense looks. I'm excited to watch us play against somebody else."
Ryan said the first team is likely to play into the second quarter, and Michael Vick is likely to get one series with the first team offense.
Ryan also noted first round draft choice safety Calvin Pryor is unlikely to play against Indianapolis. Pryor is recovering from a concussion he suffered July 26.
The Jets play the Colts at 7 p.m. Thursday at MetLife Stadium.
