Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Members of Binghamton High School's Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) gathered Wednesday to light the Katie Titus Tree of Life.

The ceremony, held every year, is in memory of Titus and to raise awareness around the holidays of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Titus, 16, was a student at Binghamton High School where she was a swimmer and a member of the SADD chapter. In 1996, she was killed in a non-alcohol related car accident.

The tree, in the high school's courtyard on Oak Street, is decorated with white bulbs.

If a person is killed in a DWI accident, a white bulb is replaced by a red bulb to remind people not to drive under the influence.

Students say not one light has been changed in 21 years
