Nichols, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some local lottery winners celebrated their luck Friday.

Gretchen Dizer from the New York Lottery presented five winners with their larger-than-life checks at Tioga Downs Casino this morning.

They won a total of $3 million from scratch-off tickets.

The winners reflected on how they felt on their lucky day.

"I couldn't believe it," said Abdel Mallouk, of Horseheads.

"My heart was pounding. I didn't know if it was true or not. I had to look at it five times. But it was exciting," Mallouk said

Most of the winners said they had bought scratch off tickets many times before and had never won much money, until now.

"Just keep trying," said Terry Clingen, of Trumansburg."Eventually you get surprised."

The winners had plenty of plans for their prize money.

"I want to travel, but I guess we have to pay bills off first," Clingen said.

"I'm going to do some shopping and be less stressed," said Sally Richards, of Spencer.

All of the winners will receive annual payments for the next 20 years totaling $1 million.

After those 20 years, two of them will also continue to receive checks for the rest of their lives.
