Binghamton NY (WBNG Binghamton) Thousands of children world wide gathered Monday to sing as one.

Among them were students at Woodrow Wilson Elementary.

Monday afternoon, they sang "Is Somebody Singing," a song written by popular songwriter Ed Robertson, of the Barenaked Ladies, and astronaut Chris Hadfield, who is currently stationed at the International Space Station.

Hadfield joined the children from the ISS with his guitar that he brought along.

It was a unique experience in which the students could see themselves as a part of a global community.

"It's exciting, for the children as well. To get that perspective has been really exciting for them," said vocal music teacher Cindy Elliot.

The event also engaged the students scientifically.

Leading up to the singalong, the children had the opportunity to talk to Hadfield and ask questions about what it's like to live in space.
