Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A new Broome-Tioga BOCES district-wide program is launched with the help of a local company.
Lockheed Martin awarded BOCES' School to Career Program $150,000 to help start STEM Hub of the Eastern Southern Tier.
Officials said the money will help support and inspire science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities and objectives.
Lockheed said this money will help students in our area, and in the future help businesses.
"We need local, technical workforce. If we don't have individuals, if we don't have kids in the pipe line who are learning science, technology, engineering and math, it will be very difficult to fill the positions," said senior manager for technical leadership development at Lockheed Martin, Ron Crawford.
Crawford added that he hopes Lockheed's donation will spur other local businesses to invest in the program as well.
The money was given at the annual Student to Career Recognition Event tonight at BOCES.
