Man arrested for driving drunk, criminally possessing guns

Town of Southport, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A 29-year-old Elmira man is arrested after he flees police, drives drunk and is found to criminally possess guns.

Chemung County Sheriff deputies arrested Christopher W. Grasso, 29, Elmira, early Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to 218 Crane Road in the Town of Elmira after receiving a 911 hang up call from the home.

After further investigation, deputies learned a domestic dispute between a man and a woman had occurred.

Police say Grasso had fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies.

They found Grasso driving a green colored Ford F-150 pick-up truck near Crane Road.

Deputies tried to stop Grasso with a traffic stop but couldn't because he was speeding.

The Elmira Police Department later found Grasso driving on Pennsylvania Avenue in the City of Elmira.

They followed him to 517 Budd Street in the Town of Southport.

Grasso was caught as he attempted to flee police on foot.

Deputies found a loaded .40 caliber handgun at the home on Crane Road and another loaded .40 caliber at the home on Budd Street.

Grasso is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, driving while intoxicated, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Grasso was arraigned in the Town of Southport Court and sent to the Chemung County Jail.
