'Meet the Farmer' serves up fresh, local ingredients with a twist

Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People were served farm fresh food, with a Japanese twist at the third 'Meet the Farmer' dinner.

The Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition (BRSC) held the dinner at Kampai Japanese Steak House in Vestal.

Restaurant patrons had a choice of a vegetarian or pork dinner.

Local farm ingredients were mixed in with traditional Japanese food.

David Currie, director of the BRSC, said this event helps farmers meet directly with restaurants and consumers and shows how important it is to eat locally.

"It's about keeping it local and it's about challenging us to think differently about how we can use our produce, creating relationships in the community and really about empowering us as consumers to be local," Currie said.

Restaurant goers were able to eat fresh, local ingredients and even dabbled in some local wine.
