Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) All across the Southern Tier, sons and daughters gave their mothers gifts for Mother’s Day, one gift in particular may be hard to beat.
Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. One gift at Lourdes Hospital came in at 6 pounds, ten ounces and 19 inches long.
At 4:31 Sunday morning on Mother's Day, Danielle and Ray McPherson welcomed Maclyn into the world, a Mother's Day gift that they said is impossible to beat.
"Being that it's mother's day, I guess I'm not going to get too many more gifts that are as good as this one," laughed Danielle McPherson.
Danielle started showing signs of labor three weeks ago, so a Mother's Day birth seemed nearly out of the question.
"I didn't expect this at all actually," Danielle McPherson said.
Maclyn stayed put for longer than the McPherson's thought.
"We got our hands full I think with this one," Danielle McPherson added.
The two traveled over an hour to have their child in the Binghamton area, which is where they met.
Maclyn and her family will head back to Moravia on Monday.
The newborn joins a family of three. Older brother, Dodge, was all smiles when he met his sister for the first time.
The proud parents want the same thing for their healthy new born.
"A great future, hopefully, whatever she wants, I want. And hopefully it's the right path," Ray McPherson said.
"I want her to be happy and successful and, like my husband said, whatever she wants, we want for her. Just want her to be happy and healthy," added Danielle.
The name Maclyn came from tribute paid to Ray's paternal grandfather, whose name was "Mac."
The couple put a feminine twist on the name and found out later that the name Maclyn is also an Irish name.
