Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After one year of collecting, more than 200 bikes were given out to children at the annual Bike Day on Saturday.
All year round, bikes have been dropped off at Sarah Jane Johnson Church in Johnson City.
"I know that tomorrow morning [Sunday] when I drive into Sarah Jane Church, Johnson City streets are going to be filled with people riding bikes with smiles," said Pastor Patricia Cardin, of the Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial Church.
Organizers said this event shows kids that bikes are vehicles and they need to be safe while riding.
Recipients also took a safety course and they all said they will wear a helmet while riding.
Helmets were donated by UHS and Broome County traffic safety.
