Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York State Department of Transportation is one step closer to a big milestone in the completion of the Prospect Mountain Project.

Phase one of the project is 43 percent complete.

Nearly half of the bridge over Chenango Street, from east to west, is completed. NYSDOT says traffic will soon shift to the new portion of the bridge.

"In order for it to be as successful as we vision that it can be with our work zones, we had to work with the community and getting them to divert their routes and find alternative routes," said NYSDOT Region Nine Director Jack Williams.

Concrete and new structures are being built on Mygatt Street.

NYSDOT hopes for a few more months in the construction season to complete more of the project. They credit the community for smooth flow of work.
