Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Parishoners of St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Binghamton celebrated Christmas Day mass Tuesday morning.

Jan. 7 marks Dec. 25 on the Julian calendar.

Orthodox Christians in Russia, Ukraine and most of the Middle East including Jerusalem celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar.

"We follow the older one which we've followed since the beginning of Christianity. It gives people an opportunity to get together and extend the holiday season," said St. Michael's Church parishioner David Dudko.

Besides the day it is celebrated, Christmas in the Orthodox Church is traditionally the same as the Christmas celebrated by most Christians on Dec. 25.
