Town of Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Hydrofracking continues to be a hot-button issue in the Town of Owego.

While some residents continue a push for a moratorium, the Town Board said it's not ready to make a decision just yet.

Over the past two board meetings, many residents have spoken strongly against hydrofracking and have even submitted a petition with nearly 2,000 names on it.

However, there have also been a few residents who are for the practice and wouldn't mind seeing it come to the area.

Those who oppose it are seeking a moratorium to ban it completely.

Town supervisor Donald Castellucci said it's too early for a decision.

"There's a lot of questions about a moratorium. We believe right now the state is in a moratorium. And while that might not be satisfactory to some, I think it gives us some time to look at this information," said Castellucci.

Castellucci said that there could be a decision in "a couple board meetings."

He stated he knows people are anxious, but the board can't be pressured into a decision at this point.
