Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An organization that helps improve the quality of life for neighbors in the Southern Tier celebrates its 70th anniversary.

The Family and Children's Society helps renew hope for those who have overcome troubling circumstances.

It celebrated its birthday by recognizing a member of the community for her service and dedication.

Pokey Crocker received the Esther Couper Award.

Crocker is the Executive Director of the Discovery Center in Binghamton.

"This organization is one that she was extremely interested in for the betterment of children, the betterment of families," said Crocker. "As the director of the Discovery Center, my day is filled with children and so this is a wonderful kind of combination for me to be involved with this award. I'm very honored, and I'm also very humbled."

Crocker has worked at the Discovery Center for 23 years.

The Family and Children's Society met at the Binghamton Club this morning.
