Police investigate suicide after assault and standoff

Fishs Eddy, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After a seven hour standoff, police entered a home to find a man who committed suicide, according to New York State Police.

State police and the Hancock Police Department responded to 479 County Route 28 in Fishs Eddy, Hancock around 1:30 a.m. Saturday for an assault report.

When they arrived, a 52-year-old woman with facial injuries had escaped the home. State police said she had been in a verbal and physical fight with Ronald L. Milke Jr., 52.

Police tried to contact Milke, the man inside, for about seven hours. They entered the home around 8:45 a.m. and found Milke dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

The woman was taken to Wilson Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
