Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) For many, nice weather means outdoor running. But it won't for much longer at one Binghamton track.

The quarter-mile track at MacArthur Park on the city's south side will close May 1.

The closure comes as officials plan for construction of a new elementary school.

The district approved a $5.8 million contract with G. DeVincentis & Son Construction Company for the site work.

It also approved a contract with LeChase Construction Services for structural work.

A new quarter-mile track is expected to open along with the new building in 2015, though it will not be competition-approved, the district said.

The district expects more bids on additional work in June.
