Port Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Port Dickinson Elementary held its annual Flag Day celebration Thursday morning.

Students decked out in red, white and blue sang patriotic songs to honor members of the military and law enforcement in attendance.

This was the 24th year the event has been run and the school said it has yet to lose its meaning.

"The flag is everything to our country and a very important symbol and the children need to know about the flag and what is means, especially in these times," said Lorraine Debellis, first grade teacher at Port Dickinson Elementary.

Flag Day has been celebrated in New York for 125 years. The official holiday falls on Saturday.
