Bainbridge, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It isn't Memorial Day weekend in Bainbridge without the General Clinton Canoe Regatta and Music Festival.

The regatta is the longest flat water canoe race in North America.

Race organizers said the regatta brought in a lot of visitors to the area.

Some of the racers came as far away as Michigan.

"I would say it's three-quarters out of state paddlers," said John Harmon, regatta organizer. "We bring a lot of people to the area from Cooperstown to Bainbridge."

"I think it's a great way to show our unity and celebrate our troops," Carolyn Lindsey of Hallstead, PA. "I'm sure that they're doing what they're doing so we can do this."

There were games and rides for children of all ages.

Bands played all day and into the night with a fireworks show scheduled for 10 p.m.

The festival is continuing on Sunday.
