Town of Candor (WBNG Binghamton) Laurie Bostwick has the gift for gab. She's used it to land a job.

Now it's earning her some hardware.

"It's mostly counting and putting some little filler words in," said Bostwick, owner of Bostwick Auctions.

It's a unique sound she perfected in auctioneer school in 1994 in Medina, Ohio. And a sound that made her dreams come true.

"My husband and I did auctions in front yards at houses and little auction halls we could rent. And the business grew."

They opened the doors to Bostwick Auctions in the Town of Candor in 2000.

And just recently, she was named the New York State Auctioneer of the Year. It's an honor she says is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement.

But it all started from humble beginnings.

"I still remember our first day, the night before our first auction here. I went out the door and before I turned the lights off, I turned around and I looked. I had to pinch myself I just couldn't believe it. I was that honored and that excited to being this business and be given so much of a chance to make it in this."

And make it she has.

"She was in fact chosen as the New York State Auctioneer of the Year. And she's also a great humanitarian," said Millie Norton, of Dryden. "She does a lot for the community."

"Every year she does a toy drive," added volunteer Katie Underwood. "[She] gives toys to kids in need."

Bostwick also welcomes in her community with open arms, hosting auctions every Friday night.

"The atmosphere is really family oriented," said employee Jeff Dailey. "They also have great food, so that's always another plus to come to the auction."

Even pets are allowed.

"It's exciting," Bostwick said. "I love seeing the young people that are here. It's just so cool to see such interest."

Many in attendance say Bostwick's enthusiasm fills the room, making it a joy to watch her work.
