Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The future of the Broome County-owned and run Willow Point Nursing Home is once again before county legislators.
Whether the retirement facility will be privatized remains to be seen, but Thursday's vote could push that decision forward.
In a 14-1 vote, the legislature hired Toski and Company, CPAs to study whether Willow Point should remain in county hands.
The company will interview Willow Point department heads and analyze the agency's finances.
At the study's conclusion, the company will offer a recommendation to the county about whether the nursing home should be managed in the future, and possibly whether it should be sold to a private company.
"This consultant will look at the finances, the future outlook for Willow Point," said Deputy Broome County Executive Bijoy Datta. "I think you saw today by the bipartisan support, where almost everyone member in both parties voted for it, that this has support throughout the county."
Datta said the study is expected to begin sometime in July, and take approximately six months.
The county will decide its next steps then.
