Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Maine-Endwell held Fayetteville-Manlius to just 21 second half points as the Spartans held off the Hornets 57-49 for the Mirabito STOP-DWI Regional Division 1 title on Monday.
After giving up 11 points to Binghamton University commit John Schurman in the first half, M-E held him to seven after the break to slow FM's offense.
Despite the losing effort, Schurman had good things to say about his experience in the Southern Tier.
"The people who are into it are really, really into it. It's awesome," Schurman said afterwards. "After this weekend, it just reaffirms, I'm so glad I decided to come here. We were able to go to the BU game, see them beat Bryant, that was awesome and then come here. Everyone was so nice."

As for the Spartans, they got 20 points from Jake Sinicki, to lead all scorers, and another 14 from Kyle Gallagher. Gallagher was named the regional division MVP for the tournament afterwards.
It's exactly the weekend M-E was looking for after a 2-2 start to the season.
"We were finally able to give them an extra day off," said coach Bill Ocker. "We just hammered out of the gate after the kids finished off their successful football season, and it was tough but no excuses. We still go to play with five guys and we go beat a couple of times, but our kids don't like losing. They're putting the work in every day and we're just trying to climb the ladder."
It also avenged last year's STOP-DWI finals loss, when M-E fell to Binghamton in the title game.
