Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

The Empire state games are no more.
Legion baseball is done.
Travel softball is just about finished.
So are most camps and AAU events.
So what's left to the final few weeks of summer for local athletes?

This weekend a new basketball tournament hopes to fill the void for a few days.
The Basketball coaches association of New York have put together a 3-day event to take the place of the Empire State Games tournament.

Tournament organizer Mark Woitach says, "We've thrown it together maybe more quickly than we would have liked to, but I think it's going to be a really good event. It's divided into 8 regions, both boys and girls, represented by 10-12 person teams. We're going to play this weekend similar to the Empire State Games, there will be 2 pools of 4 teams that will play pool play Friday and Saturday."

There will be boys and girls games from Friday to Sunday at Johnson City elementary, middle and high schools.
Woitach says there are several division 1 commitments playing in the tournament, including 6 on the Hudson Valley boys team.
