Walton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Walton is the small kind of town where everybody knows everybody. That's why three seemingly related deaths come as nothing less than a shock to the community of just over 3,000 people.
Police found the bodies of Debra S. Sundstrom, 48, of 1884 S. River Rd. and Dominick L. Bosco, 51, of 294 John Lockwood Rd. Tuesday after a house fire. Friday, police say they found the body of Randy L. Sundstrom at the S. River Road home.
Police have ruled Debra Sundstrom's death a suicide and are investigating Randy Sundstrom's death as a homicide.
"This is a quiet little community, everybody knows everybody, everybody gets along," said Jim Groff, owner of the Big M Supermarket in Walton. "For something like this to happen is a shock to everyone I think."
Debra Sundstrom had worked at Big M for the last two years, Groff said, though she had quit within the last couple of weeks.
She was a model employee, Groff said. She covered shifts when needed and worked hard.
"Customers came in last week and told me they can't believe this," he said. "She was their favorite cashier."
The Sundstroms enjoyed gardening, especially cultivating pumpkins. PBS featured Debra and Randy on a show called Lords of the Gourd, and they even won the New York State Championship with a 1,500 pound pumpkin.
As for Bosco, his family is left to rebuild the house in which his body was found.
Bosco's brother, Patrick, said Dominick and Debra were friendly and had been seeing each other.
Police continue to investigate the deaths.
