Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) NYSEG was called out Friday morning to restore power after a tractor trailer hit a utility pole.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Lewis, Willis, Glenwood, and Smith-Hill roads.

Deputy Dan Thomas said the driver of a Celadon truck got lost and made a wrong turn.

While the driver was turning around, the truck struck a utility pole with a transformer on it, causing a power outage along surrounding roads.

The truck was carrying 11,000 pounds of UPS packages.

NYSEG and the Town of Chenango Fire Department were also called to the scene.

As of 7:30 a.m., Lewis and Willis roads were closed by the Glenwood, Smith Hill intersection. The Sheriff's Office said the area could remain closed off to traffic for a few hours.

"There's wires on the truck, there's phone lines down, there's cables down a power outage in the area. It's quite a mess," said Russell Carey, assistant fire chief for the Town of Chenango Fire Dept.

According to Carey, there was one man and one woman in the truck. No one was injured during the accident.

Broome County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.
