Corning, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A man was fatally hit by a train in Corning Wednesday afternoon. Police believe loud music on his cell phone played a role in his death.

According to the Corning Police Department, Jacob Personius, 25, was hit by a west bound train near Spruce Street and Bridge Street Extension Wednesday afternoon.

Officers believe Personius left a house near the train tracks just prior to being hit.

Witnesses told police they called out to him but he did not respond.

The train also continuously sounded its horn before striking Personius.

Police said they believe he was listening to music on his cellphone using ear buds, and the music was too loud to hear any warnings.
