New Berlin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A small family farm in New Berlin got a big surprise Tuesday when their 5-year-old cow Bear gave birth to three female calves.

Figures show the odds of birthing a successful set of female triplets is 1 in 8 million.

Farmer Mikey Gorrell said he didn't believe his father when he told him their cow had given birth to three healthy calves.

"When he told me, there's gotta be something else," Mikey Gorrell said, "It can't be triplets, that just doesn't happen."

Mikey's father Michael was equally as wowed about the cows.

He had walked up to the top of the hill at the Gorrell Family Farm when he found two at first, and then stumbled on a surprising third.

"My brother's got 600 cows and he never had triplets," Michael Gorrell said.

The elder Gorrell said the calves were delivered naturally on the farm with no help.

"We didn't have anything to do with it," he said, "But it's pretty neat that it happened here."

Mikey Gorrell helped his daughter brushing the newborns, both could barely wrap their heads around what he calls a gift from God.

"It's just truly rare, we weren't there to assist at all, we weren't there to make sure they were breathing when they came out," he said. "It's just truly a miracle."

The bovine trio don't have names yet, but Rare, Miracle, or perhaps Lucky are all sure fits.
