Vestal, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Voters on Tuesday approved a measure for the Town of Vestal to buy a specialized fire truck.

The final tally was 805 votes in favor of the measure to 240 votes against.

There was a steady stream of voters Tuesday at the Vestal Town Hall to cast a ballot on whether the town should buy a new $675,000 heavy equipment truck.

The one currently used by the department is 27 years old, and not in line with national fire codes, town officials have said.

The approval will not raise taxes in the town because fire officials said the department will use bonds and grants to finance the purchase.

A similar, although more expensive, measure failed earlier this year.
