Apalachin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tioga Hills Elementary students invite veterans to school to recognize their service.

On Thursday morning, a dozen veterans attended the school's "Honor Those Who Serve" program. Fifth graders organized the event which included several songs and readings.

"We hope that this will be a touching tribute," said Jane Hasey, Tioga Hills Elementary School Principal, "Everything we've done in terms of our planning and preparation is thinking about how we can thank them in our own words."

A Powerpoint presentation was shown featuring photographs of those in the military who were unable to attend the event.

Students at Tioga Hills also made cards for veterans.

This was the first year of the Veterans Day event. It was held as a part of the school's character program.
