Otego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) During our tour of high school football camps this summer, the word out of Unatego was they were a young team, and didn't know what to expect. Fast forward a couple of months and the Spartans are set to claim their second straight division title.
The Spartans had a lot of question marks heading into the season.
But those questions have been answered.
Sophomore quarterback Josh Feyerabend has been a more than adequate, leading his team to a 5 and 1 record.
But he's not the only one.
The line has been great, the running backs have picked up the slack and it seems Unatego hasn't missed a beat.
Ask the team honestly though and they'll tell you even they didn't expect to have this much success this season.
"I'm going to be honest with you...no. I mean we were so young. Lots of new, unexperienced players that are coming up, making a statement for the Spartans so it was a really tough thing to say that maybe we'd be here again but my God, we did it and it's the greatest feeling ever," says senior Joel Van Alstine.
"We have good senior leadership. The juniors from last year that are seniors now really really led us in the summer, they led us in the preseason and they've led us all the way through. I can't ask for anything else of these seniors," says coach Frank Microni.
Unatego finishes the regular season on the road against winless Unadilla Valley on Friday night.
