As we close the book on the second major winter storm to affect the Twin Tiers this season, we are once again reminded of how incredibly complex these early and late season storms can be across our area. While some parts of the area are digging out from over half a foot of snow this morning....many of you who live in valley towns such as Endicott, Johnson City, and Binghamton are probably wondering what all the fuss is about! Little if any snow was observed in these locations. Here's a list of snowfall totals we've seen across our area so far (this list may not be final):
8.0" Oxford (Chenango County)
7.0" Plymouth (Chenango County)
6.0" Greene (Chenango County)
5.0" Candor (Tioga County NY)
4.5" Bainbridge (Chenango County)
4.0" Afton (Chenango County)
3.0" Newark Valley (Tioga County NY)
2.9" Binghamton Airport (Broome County)
2.0" Trumansburg (Tompkins County)
2.0" Wilmot Township (Bradford County)
1.7" Carpathian Hill, Johnson City (Broome County)
1.5" Hancock (Delaware County)
1.0" Stamford (Delaware County)
0.5" Deposit (Broome County)
0.0" Endicott (Broome County)
0.0" Conklin (Broome County)
It appears that accumulations with this particular storm ranged from nothing to a slushy coating on immediate valley floors....to 1-2" between 1000-1200 feet....to 2-4" between 1200-1600 feet.....to 4-8" above 1600 feet. It's quite possible that some of the highest hilltops across Chenango, Broome, Susquehanna, Wayne, Delaware, and Otsego Counties will end up totaling near one foot of snow by the time things taper off later this morning! Truely another fascinating storm across the Twin Tiers....
