This winter has been cold indeed, and that has led to area rivers and streams to freeze over. This could lead to ice jams. We and the National Weather Service would love to have more river ice observers, so we can keep tabs on any potentially dangerous situations that could arise. As of 2/3/11 I don't see any big warm  ups in the next couple of weeks that would break up the ice. However, spring will eventually come to the Twin Tiers and the potential for ice jam flooding could increase.
